Jesus in My Golf Cart
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (January, 2002)
Authors: Bernita Jackson Brown, Paul Winer, and Wanda Lund
Average review score:

Inspirational
Jesus in my Golf Cart is a humorous, yet down to earth chat with Jesus as the protagonist goes about her daily life. In this case it is playing golf. Bub (Satan) puts in his two cents worth from time to time, just as in life.
It is a book worthy of the author's faith and talent. It reminds one that whatever you go or whatever you are doing, all you have to do is ask Jesus what he thinks.
A fine inspirational piece of work.

Inspirational yet funny
Jesus in my Golf Cart is a fasinating book with Jesus and occassionaly "Bub" (Satan) butting into the conversation to get his point across. Ms. Brown has caught the essence of religious belief that stays with a true believer as they go about their daily tasks or play.
This book provides insight into walking with Jesus and a few laughs besides. Who ever said Jesus didn't laugh?

Jig How
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica, Inc. (May, 2003)
Author: Roy W. Brown
Average review score:

Action at Sea: a Scarcely-Known War Story
In "Jig How," Roy Brown gives us a story dealing with a branch of the World War II Navy that is not so much forgotten as untold. A signalman, as the book's title suggests, he served with the Armed Guard, which put U.S. Navy gunners and communcations personnel on board ships of the merchant marine, slow, awkward freighters, tankers and troopships that offered inviting targets to enemy submarines and aircraft. Brown puts the reader in the thick of the action as Navy gunners in vast convoys of these vessels encounter the enemy and give as good as they got.

Jig How: A Story of the Naval Armed Guard in WWII
Jig How is the story of a teenage boy growing up in America's heartland in the 1930s. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, he joins the Navy and soon finds himself thrust into the middle of some of the fiercest naval battles the world has ever known, including Anzio.
Written as a novel, Jig How tells the story of a little-known part of the US Navy, the Naval Armed Guard. At the same time, we see the war through the eyes of one of its members, a typcial American teenage boy, who must grow up and become a man virtually overnight. Attacks by Japanese and German aircraft become almost routine. We are given unique insight into what it was like to be a member of the amazing generation of young men who saved the world from tyranny. I highly recommend this book!

A fusion of flavors never before experienced!
Last night I went to Melange Cafe in Cherry Hill, NJ. The food was full of great flavors and the presentation was very appetizing. The fusion of the two cuisines are awesome. I am definately going to return and try other items on the menu prepared by the masterful chef. I purchased the cookbook and the chef was kind enough to take the time and sign it for me. Thanks Joe for creating a great dining experience! I can not wait to prepare the dishes using the recipes from the cookbook.

John Brown and His Men
Published in Hardcover by Digital Scanning Inc (August, 2001)
Authors: Richard J. Hinton and Carlos Martyn
Average review score:

"Correspondence, Mr. Brown."
Too often are works of historical note written with cold dispassion. You won't find any dry writing here. Hinton manages to encapsulate the drama and tension of the period in grand style. To those looking for simply a overview of the Harpers raid, be prepared for an information overload that includes biographies, primary excerpts and a rousing tale of cathartic proportions.

I discovered that my ancestor, John Henry Kagi was a Raider.
I was searching for my ancestors through the Keagy line and found this book. In it, I discovered that John Henry Kagi, an earlier form of the spelling "Keagy", was one of John Brown's men. Later I found another book about John Henry Kagi entitled, "John Henry Kagi and His Old Log Cabin Home." I am interested in learning more about Keagy Family Line and especially John Henry Kagi. My wife and I traveled to Harper's Ferry, VA to visit the site of John Brown's raid. Unfortunately, the papers and photographs of John Henry Kagi were damaged in the Spring flood. It was a great disappointment to us. The only records that we have are the information that I gained through those books, "John Brown and His Men," and "John Henry Kagi and His Old Log Cabin Home." Both of these books covered the raid on Harper's Ferry and gave me a wealth of new facts about John Henry Kagi. It brought history to life and presented a hero to my family.

John Brown Rose and the Midnight Cat
Published in Hardcover by Weston Woods Studios (December, 1991)
Author: J. Wagner
Average review score:

A special book
This is a very tender book, with love and understanding children and adults can relate to. Ideal for ages 2 and up.

A Quiet and Wonderful Story
John Brown is a large shaggy dog living contentedly with Rose. When a cat arrives needing food and love, Rose is ready to open her heart and home to the new arrival, but John Brown has a very hard time sharing Rose, and watching Rose take care for someone else. By the book's end, John Brown has changed. In simple words and marvelous pictures, this book helps children - and the adults reading to them - consider a difficult and complicated emotion: jealousy. The perfect book to help children get ready for a baby brother or sister, it's too bad it isn't easier to find.

The John Grisham Value Collection: A Time to Kill, the Firm, the Client
Published in Audio Cassette by Bantam Books-Audio (06 July, 1999)
Authors: D.W. Moffett, Blair Brown, Michael Beck, John Time to Kill Grisham, John Firm Grisham, and John Client Grisham
Average review score:

A TIME TO KILL
NICK FRANCISCO PERIOD 2

"A Time to Kill" is John Grisham's first novel. His fluid, detailed storytelling is unlike the choppy first attempts of many modern authors. In a small town in the Deep South, two redneck hooligans rape and maim a ten-year-old black girl. Enraged, the girl's father, Carl Lee Hailey, takes justice into his own hands, killing the two rapists in a courthouse shooting. He seeks the help of defense lawyer Jake Brigance to save him from the gas chamber.

Brigance, a young but sharp lawyer, has to find a way to win an impossible case: a black man is on trial for killing two white men, and his case is being heard by an all-white jury. Adding to the mix are violence between the Ku Klux Klan and the black community, and the fact that, during the shooting, Carl Lee had injured a sheriff's deputy.

When I first read this novel, I was angered and irritated by the depth of hatred that exists within racism. I was angered that had Carl Lee been a white man bent on avenging his daughter's suffering, he would never have had to face trial. The rape of ten year old Tanya, Carl Lee's daughter, by Billy Ray and Pete, A Time to Kill is a disturbing novel, aside from the raping and killing that opens the tale. It is not possible to look at our justice system the same way, especially from the viewpoint of the black community in the South.

this is SO cool
John Grisham is of course my favorite author, and this is the perfect collector's item of sorts because it gives you all of his best books...in audio! If you listen to all his books, it just makes them come more alive and real, and it's just terrific.

Everyone who enjoys a good laugh should read this book.
I own a copy of this book and think it is awesome. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I like the way Johnny made jokes- I understood them. I also liked how the book took place near where I live- every one else thought it was cool too. Me and my friends have already gone looking for gnomes. Sometimes, I would read it during silent reading in class, and I would burst out laughing. Then, everyone would turn around and look at me. Some of my friends have already borrowed the book from me and say that it is way cool. Everyone should read this book because it is way funny and you will laugh for hours. This is an awesome book that I am going to read FOREVER!!! Thank You For Writing This Book- Your favorite reader

It was fantistic. I loved every word of it.
I thought Johnny And The Gnome was fabulous. It was a humorous adventure that was hard to lay down. It was superbly written. I especially liked the way it showed a "normal" family life; with sibling rivalry. I think everyone should read it.

A Great Book
Tom Brown's books are all very good including this one. It is about Tom having grown up by an old Apache named Grandfather. Grandfather teaches him many skills of the wilderness - both physical and spiritual. It is a great book and ties in to Tom's whole series of books. I encourage you to read them. They will give you a new awareness on life that you never thought of before.

Karen Brown's 2000 Italy - Charming Inns and Itineraries
This book was loaned to me by a travel agent friend who had used it for his personal travels. I quickly purchased a copy and a companion volume, Karen Brown's Charming Bed and Breakfasts in Italy. They made the real difference in our trip. We found that each place we stayed offered something special, whether it was a quiet, flower-filled courtyard in the center of Florence or a memorable meal on the coast. We also appreciated the variety of prices and accommodations described. A real find.

A Memorable Trip
Last year my son and I traveled to Italy for the first time on his winter break. This was a last minute decision and a friend recommended Karen Brown's book. We were daring, and didn't make reservations prior to leaving, but carried her book with us. We stayed at a recommended Inn at each of our destinations in Italy and was not disappointed once. Each Inn and Inn Keeper were delightful and as described in the book. We were never disappointed and looked forward to the next town we decided to visit!

This trip was such a fantastic experience, that we're doing it again this year!
